How to create a QR code

  1. Pick what the code should do. Choose a tab above — a website link, plain text, Wi-Fi login, contact card, email, SMS or phone number.
  2. Fill in the details and customise the look. Change the dot pattern, colours, eye shapes and size, or drop your logo into the middle.
  3. Click Generate, then download. Save it as a PNG for screens and print. Scan it with your phone once before sending it to a printer.

What you can turn into a QR code

Website URL

The most common kind. Anyone who scans it opens your link straight away — handy on posters, packaging, business cards and menus.

Wi-Fi password

Guests join your network by scanning, without typing the password. Enter the network name, pick WPA/WPA2 and add the password. Great for cafés, rentals and spare rooms.

Contact card (vCard)

Scanning saves your name, phone, email and company straight into the other person's contacts — much better than a printed number they'd have to type in.

Email

Opens a new message with your address, subject line and body already filled in, so people can get in touch in one tap.

SMS

Opens a text message pre-addressed to your number with a message ready to send. Useful for competitions, sign-ups and support lines.

Phone number

Starts a call to your number when scanned. Good for service vans, shopfronts and anything where you want people to ring you right away.

Plain text

Shows a short message on screen with nothing to click — useful for serial numbers, instructions, machine labels and stock references.

WhatsApp

Opens a WhatsApp chat with your business, with a first message already typed. Popular on shop windows, delivery slips and market stalls where people would rather message than call.

Social profile

Sends people straight to your Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X, Telegram or Snapchat profile — no searching for the right handle.

Location

Opens your address in Google Maps with directions one tap away. Works from a street address or exact coordinates, which is handy for venues, sites and units with no clear postal address.

Calendar event

Scanning offers to save the event — title, place, start and end time — straight into the phone's calendar. Good on event posters, invitations and tickets.

Google review

Drops customers directly into the "write a review" box for your business, skipping the search step that loses most people. Works well on receipts, tables and packaging.

Barcode formats you can generate

Alongside QR codes, the Barcode tab creates the linear formats that retail and warehouse scanners expect. Code128 is the flexible general-purpose choice for letters and numbers, used for shipping labels and internal stock codes. EAN-13 and EAN-8 are the retail product barcodes used across Europe and most of the world, while UPC-A is the equivalent in North America. Code39 is an older format still common in manufacturing and defence. Pick the format, type the digits, and download it as a PNG or SVG.

Frequently asked questions

Do QR codes expire?

The codes made here never expire. The link is written directly into the pattern, so there is no redirect in the middle that could be switched off. As long as the destination still works, the code works.

Is this really free?

Yes. You can create and download as many QR codes and barcodes as you like without paying. A free account unlocks the colourful presets and gradients, and there is an optional Pro plan that removes the small watermark and ads.

Do I need to create an account?

No. The generator works straight away with no sign-up. An account is only needed for the colourful gradient presets.

Can I add my logo to a QR code?

Yes — upload an image and it is placed in the centre. Error correction is raised to High automatically so the code still scans with the logo covering part of the pattern.

Will a coloured QR code still scan?

Usually, as long as there is strong contrast between the pattern and the background, and the background stays lighter than the pattern. Very pale colours or dark backgrounds can stop scanners reading it, so always test before printing.

What size should I print a QR code?

A good rule is that the code should be at least a tenth of the distance it will be scanned from — about 3cm across for arm's length, and much larger for a poster read from across a room. Leave clear white space around the edge.

Are my QR codes private?

Yes. Everything is generated inside your own browser. What you type is never uploaded, stored or tracked by us.
