Google review QR codes

Most happy customers would leave a review if it took ten seconds. Asking them to find your business on Google themselves is what loses them — a code that opens the review box directly removes every step in between.

How to make one

  1. Find your Place ID. Use Google's Place ID finder, search for your business, and copy the identifier — it looks like ChIJN1t_tDeuEmsRUsoyG83frY4.
  2. Open the Review tab and paste it in.
  3. Generate, then scan it yourself. Confirm the review box opens for the right business before you print anything.

The finder is the reliable route. Business names are rarely unique, and a code pointing at a similarly-named business in another town is an easy mistake to make and an annoying one to discover after printing 500 receipts.

Where to put it

On the receipt

Reaches every customer at the moment the service is freshest in their mind, and costs nothing beyond the ink.

On the counter or table

A small stand near the till catches people while they wait to pay, which is dead time they are usually happy to fill.

In the packaging

A card in the box works well for takeaway and deliveries, where there is no face-to-face moment to ask.

In the follow-up email

The same code works on screen. People can scan it from a laptop with their phone.

Ask properly, and stay on the right side of the rules

A code on its own gets ignored. A short line — "Enjoyed it? A review really helps us" — alongside a member of staff actually mentioning it will do more than any amount of design.

What you must not do is offer discounts, freebies or entry into a prize draw in exchange for reviews. Google's policies prohibit incentivised reviews, and enforcement ranges from removing the reviews to penalising the listing. Equally, do not filter — sending only happy customers to the code and steering unhappy ones elsewhere ("review gating") is against the rules too. Ask everyone, and fix the complaints you get.

Why this beats a shortened link

A printed link has to be typed, and nobody types a URL off a receipt. The code removes that step entirely and lands the customer in the review box itself rather than on a search results page where they still have to find you. It also never expires — the destination is written into the pattern, so there is no link shortener that could disappear and take your printed codes with it.
